Tending to What Hurts
In conversation with herbalist Gina Gibbon: 4 herbs to support your nervous system when the weight of the world feels too heavy.
I’m smiling. But I’m sad.
I’m stressed.
I’m heartbroken for humanity.
And I’m going to guess… maybe you are too.
We’re living through incredibly heavy times. The headlines. The wars. The division of people. The growing chasm between wealth and poverty. The grief that so many of us carry to work, into our homes, and into our bodies. It’s enough to make your nervous system want to shut down.
As a mom and just as a human, I’m trying to hold it all together, but some days it feels impossible. Even when we’re not directly in crisis, the ripple effects are everywhere. And we’re still expected to show up. To function. To keep going.
Our bodies, minds, and spirits are asking for care. We need support
This week, I sat down with herbalist and Ecoversity mentor Gina Gibbon to talk about how we can care for our nervous systems right now. How we can build simple rituals around herbal support. Not to numb ourselves or look away, but to give ourselves the strength to keep showing up.
There are wise companions all around us, plants that have stood with people through war, through illness, and through sorrow. Plants that know something about resilience and about healing. And I don’t want to sound overly romantic about it. Life is messy and painful and real. But I’ve found so much comfort in reconnecting with these specific plants.
Smelling them.
Making tea with them.
And it’s helping. Truly. So I want to share them with you.
